All About Groove – MMW @ Toronto Jazz Fest

New York trio Medeski Martin and Wood – names synonymous with groove and good times – play the main stage of the Toronto Jazz Festival tonight!

For those still not in the know, their music is designed to stimulate the cerebral cortices while simultaneously causing one’s booty to shake. A cross-section of the audience counts equal numbers of toques and hoodies to salt and pepper pony-tails. In the past they’ve incorporated hip-hop elements - including turn-tables - into their music, and over recent tours have had an extended collaboration with guitarist John Scofield. Tomorrow night sees Buckwheat Zydeco attack the main stage with his accordion lead Creole party music. This is his 30th. anniversary tour, and by all accounts he is an artist who knows how to get the joint jumping.
